Over the years we have had the best luck with crab pots near Camano Island. We launch at the state park and parking is limited so stay away from the weekends. We drop the pots down about 50 feet and use chicken meat covered in crab bait or canned sardines as the scent attracts the crab.

We usually wait at least an hour or two before checking the pots. The time of day hasn't made an impact as long as in the middle of one of the tide cycles. This trip was the first time for the grandkids and they thought it was pretty cool learning to tell which crabs to keep or gently toss back into the ocean. 

Make sure to use the breakaway string so the crabs can get out if a pot is lost and check the current WA regulations. The view from everywhere is amazing and if you boat out about 15 minutes you can see the seals on seal island something unique to our PNW.
